Tuition walks are aimed at beginners, hobbyists, those who might want to refresh existing skills, or anyone who might want to learn & practice photography with some professional guidance. Tuition walks make a great gift for a loved one or as a treat for yourself. Tutoring is available on a 1-2-1 or group basis, up to a maximum of 7 people.

A photography tuition walk will help develop your creative vision and give you the knowledge required to create eye catching images. Through sharing photography experience and appreciation of the world around us, my hope is that you'll go home full of energy and keen to carry on an incredible hobby. For those who want to take things further, I'm happy to advise on next steps - selling and publishing work.

What will I learn?
We'll talk about composition and the importance of story telling in photography. We'll also look at the different settings on your camera and practice using them to create immersive images. If you've ever wondered where to position a subject in the frame, which mode, aperture, shutter speed or ISO settings to use and when to adjust them, a 1-2-1 walk could be for you. I teach in a way that's easy to understand and without judgement, being outside provides an opportunity to practice the things we talk about. Camera settings and modes can feel a bit daunting at first but my aim is to simplify things and help you understand which settings to adjust, the correct modes to use and when to use them.
What type of camera should I bring?
Whether a smartphone or the very latest camera tech, you're welcome to bring whichever camera or equipment you'd like to learn about and practice using. The level of available tuition is fully dependent on your camera type and the settings it has within it. For example, while we can create stunning images with smartphones and compact cameras, they don't have the same functions, or range of controls as a DSLR.
What can I expect on a walk day, how much do sessions cost, when and where do they happen?
Our walk will start with a chat about what you may or may not already know about photography, I'll then run through some basic camera settings before we head out on our route. You'll be offered three themes to explore and encouraged to look for subjects that you find appealing. I'll offer advice, inspiration, encouragement and suggestions of what I think make a nice photograph. As we're walking you'll have the opportunity to learn about different camera modes including aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual.
There are four available options for session length, prices are per person:
1 hour 'mini' session (minimum of 3 sessions recommended) - £40
2-3 hours - £75
Half Day (4-5 Hours) - £150
Full Day (Max. 8 Hours) - £300
Locations I like to visit for tutoring include: Snettisham RSPB, Old Hunstanton, Wells next the Sea (beach and/or town), Burnham Overy Staithe (quay, coast path and beach), King's Lynn (heritage trail), Blakeney to Morston (coast path), Thornham (harbour, coast path and beach), Pensthorpe and Gooderstone Water gardens.
Locations can be tailored to suit requirements, please don't hesitate to ask if you have a preferred destination in mind. Please note that some locations will require an additional entrance fee.
What dates are available?
Tuition walks usually take place at weekends - when requesting a booking, please let me know 3 preferred Saturday/Sunday dates (minimum of 3 choices for best availability). Walks run from March to September (avoiding the winter months and worst weather).
Can I book as a gift?
Yes - Gift bookings are available on request, prices as above - please email [email protected] to purchase. A PDF gift certificate will be supplied by email after purchase with full redemption details included. Gift certificates are valid from March to September (one season of photo walks) but if purchased late in the season, will be carried over to the following year. Locations as above can be decided at time of redemption.
What else do I need to know?
Walks are fully dependent on the weather. If heavy rain or any type of yellow/amber/red warning is forecast, a walk will be postponed. Walks will then be rescheduled.
Ages 16+ only. If you're under 16 and would like to come along, please ask a parent or guardian to email and book on your behalf. I ask that anyone under 16 is accompanied by an adult on walk day.
As much as I love dogs, they tend to distract a bit when taking photographs so sadly aren't permitted.

How do I request a booking?
To request a booking, please email [email protected] with details of:
1) Your name/s and a contact number/email address
2) Your preferred weekend date/s (please supply at least 3 options)
3) Your preferred location/s
4) Your required session length
For gift bookings, please email to request a gift certificate with details for both yourself and the recipient.
For personal and gift bookings, I'll reply by email and include a PDF invoice with payment details (payment by BACs preferred). Full payment is required for bookings/dates to be confirmed.
