1 to 1 and Private Group 'Introduction to Photography' Walks - Norfolk/London
Who are 1 to 1 and private group walks aimed at?
1 to 1 and private group walks are aimed at beginners, hobbyists and those looking to learn and practice photography skills with some professional guidance. Walks make a great gift for a loved one or as a treat for yourself.
Kind words from previous attendees...
"one of the best birthday gifts I've ever been bought" - G.Copsey
"Thank you very much for an excellent photography session yesterday. It was insightful and enjoyable, I hope I can join another session in the future" - Hayley Stimpson
A 1 to 1 or private group walk will help develop your creative vision and give you the knowledge required to create eye catching images. Through sharing my photography experience and appreciation of the world around us, my hope is that you'll go home full of energy, keen to carry on your picture making journey. For those who want to take things a step further I'm happy to advise on selling and publishing work.
Private group walks are perfect for families, friends, a work 'team build' outing, hen or stag parties or as bespoke events for hospitality and tourism businesses.
I'm keen and happy to welcome those who might be nervous/anxious, as experience has shown me the benefits that photography, being outside and walking can have for our physical and mental well being. Everyone who joins me is treated with kindness, compassion, patience and appreciation. If you have any questions or concerns before booking, please get in touch.
What will I learn?
We'll talk about composition and the importance of story telling in photography. We'll also look at the different settings on your camera and practice using them to create immersive images. If you've ever wondered where to put a subject in the frame, which mode, aperture, shutter speed or ISO settings to use and when to adjust them, a 1 to 1 or private group walk could be for you.
What type of camera should I bring?
Any camera type is fine from smartphone/compact to Bridge/CSC/DSLR. However, the level of available tuition is fully dependent on your camera type and the settings it has within it. For example, while we can create stunning images with smartphones and compact cameras, these cameras will not have the same functions or controls as a DSLR.
What can I expect on a walk day, when and where do they happen?
Our walk will start with a brief introduction and chat about what you may or may not already know about photography, I'll then run through some basic camera settings before we head out on our route. You'll be encouraged to look for subjects and capture images that you find appealing. I'll offer some advice, inspiration, encouragement and suggestions of what I think make a nice photograph. As we're walking you'll have the opportunity to learn and practice using different camera modes including aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual.
There are three available options for session length (prices below are per person for 1 to 1 walks only - please email for private group rates):
2-3 hours - £75
Half Day (4-5 Hours) - £150
Full Day (Max. 8 Hours) - £200 - A full day's photography workshop will include two locations and a break for lunch
Locations I like to visit in Norfolk include Wells next the Sea (beach and/or town), Burnham Overy Staithe (quay, coast path and beach), King's Lynn (heritage trail), Blakeney to Morston (coast path), Thornham (harbour, coast path and beach) and Gooderstone Water gardens.
Walks can be tailored to suit your requirements so please don't hesitate to ask if you have a preferred location you'd like to visit.
What dates are available?
1 to 1 and private group walks usually take place on Saturday or Sunday - when requesting a booking, please let me know 3 preferred dates (minimum of 3 choices for best availability). 1 to 1 walks run from March to September (avoiding the winter months).
Can I book as a gift?
Yes - Gift bookings are available on request, prices as above - please email [email protected] to purchase. A PDF gift certificate will be supplied by email after purchase with full redemption details included. Gift certificates are valid from March to September (one season of photo walks) but if purchased late in the season, will be carried over to the following year. Locations as above can be decided at time of redemption.
What else do I need to know?
Walks are fully dependent on the weather. If heavy rain or any type of yellow/amber/red warning is forecast, a walk will be postponed with no less then 24 hours notice. Walks will then be rescheduled.
Ages 16+ only. If you're lucky enough to be under 16 and would like to come along, please ask a parent or guardian to email and book on your behalf. I ask that anyone under 16 is accompanied by an adult on walk day.
As much as I love animals and dogs, they tend to distract a bit when taking photographs so sadly aren't permitted.
