Details: Horsey Gap is home to one of the largest colonies of Grey Seals in the UK, with over 3,500 seal pups born along this beautiful stretch of coastline in the 2024/2025 season. We're heading here in late November as it's a time when there is plenty of activity to see and photograph along the beach.
Our workshop here is aimed at beginner and hobbyist photographers looking to learn and practice photography within a small and friendly group. At the start of our visit you'll be offered some themes for the morning along with some gentle direction. I'll be on hand to answer any questions and to offer advice on photographing wildlife (including composition and camera settings). Zoom lenses are highly recommended for our visit (300mm upwards).
Our visit here will be under the watchful eye of the beach wardens, seals are very easily spooked by humans and a distance of 10m is required at all times. The beach does get very busy so my plan for the morning is for the group to split up and spread out along the viewing areas, I'll make my way to everyone as the morning goes on. We'll stay at the beach for around 2-3 hours. Please note that there is no toilet facilities or cafe at Horsey Gap, please ensure you are comfortable before arriving.
Any camera type is fine but if using a smartphone, please bare in mind your zoom capability for the seals might be reduced. If you have any concerns or questions before booking your place, please just drop me an email.
Car Parking: Yes, Pay & Display, details as above
Toilet Facilities: No - nearest public facilities are at Seal Palling or Horsey Windpump (National Trust)
Refreshments/Cafe: No - please bring drinks/flask/snacks as required
Weather: Photography walks are dependant on the weather. If there's a forecast of heavy rain or any type of weather warning, the walk will be cancelled. No less than 24 hours notice will be provided by email with information on cancellation. Full terms and conditions can be found via the link above. If the walk has to be cancelled for any reason (including but not limited to poor weather), a full refund will be provided.
Emergency Contact: Before each photo walk, attendees are asked to provide a personal contact number for any last minute updates/contact on the day, also a contact number for someone who can be called in an emergency (accident or sudden illness). This information will be securely stored (digitally) and disposed of (deleted) within 72 hours of the walk ending. Names and phone numbers will not be used for marketing or any other purpose. While unlikely to be needed, this information is required for your own safety and also the safety of the group. I'll ask for this info in my final joining email, sent 2-3 days before the event.
